Kingdom Archers
Was founded in January 2002. John Mangan purchased equipment from Shooting Style in Dublin. He enquired if there was an archery club in Kerry. Pauline Conroy gave him
Michael Fitzgibbon's telephone number. Michael had recently moved to Kerry and had been a member of Blackheath Archery Club while living in Dublin.
They both subsequently decided to set up a club.
Kingdom Archers are eternally grateful to Liam Bohan of Tralee Sports Centre who allowed the
young club to shoot free of charge every Saturday evening. There were two conditions. The club was to be called Kingdom Archers and there had to be at least 5 members within 6 weeks.
Within 4 weeks there were 2 new members (Anthony Kelleher and Tadgh Healey through an advert), and 2 weeks later Danny Lyne joined (again after a telephone call to Shooting Style).
When Danny arrived the club had its first official meeting in Michael Fitzgibbon's front room. Dan Lyne was elected secretary, John Mangan chairman, Michael Fitzgibbon treasurer, Taigue Healy was Youth Rep, and Anthony Kelleher was equipment maintenance.
With the departure of Liam Bohan in the Summer of 2002 from Tralee Sports Centre, Kingdom Archers had to relocate. Fortunately Danny Lyne found a new premises in the old covered Handball Alley in the Seminary Killarney.
Kingdom Archers hosted their first IAAA shoot (the Munster Indoor Open in April 2003). Thirty archers, mainly from Munster attended Kingdom Archer's inaugural shoot.
To the left is a picture of all the original club members. At that stage we had 7 members of whom only 4 remain. On the other hand there are now almost 30 people in the club.
Considering the youth and relatively small size of the club, it has one of the best pedigrees in the country.
Dan Lyne has already been called to represent Ireland in the Men's Seniors (Euronations 2004), and also won the Irish Indoor Championships (Galway 2004) and Indoor Open (Cork 2004).
Fergal O'Connor has broken the Irish Junior Record several times, and has captained the Irish Junior Team (Euronations 2004).
We have many promising new members and an ambitious and improving team, so watch this space.
Joining is simple. Come along any Saturday night to one of our meets- click here for directions, or telephone

You can try archery for a few nights and if you like it we will give you a bow and arrows, (for a modest deposit). Insurance is determined by the IAAA and is around €65 per annum for adults and €40 per annum for juniors. There is also club liability insurance which works out at around €10
per annum. If you decide that you would like to upgrade the bow, then simply return the bow on loan and we will give you the deposit back.
Many of the new members have found archery to be one of the most fulfilling of sports. It is a sport that most able-bodied people can do up till their sixties. It is a sport particularly suited for those individuals who are wheelchair bound, or whose with limited mobility.
We are giving an open invitation to all who are interested in archery.
